It is a dry season, but these days there is a shower. After ocean, I have to cycle on hills to Kilimanjaro’s city.
3rd Aug 2013
The time of ferry schedule is very weird that departure is 12 pm and arrive is 4 pm from Dar es salaam to Zanzibar. But from Zanzibar to Dar es salaam departure is 9:30 pm and arrive is 6 am. I don’t know why it is.
The way I came back to Dar es Salaam, the ferry was like being in danger of shipwreck. It was really bad. I was lucky that I took some medicine for nausea before taking a ferry. Some of passengers kept vomiting.
I don’t like come and go at the same road that I take a different road, to Bagamoyo city. I thought I slept enough on a ferry. But once I start cycling, I am too sleepy ever. It is just like torturing myself.
Bagamoyo is also beside ocean, but there are not many tourists. When I visited to fish market with Italian couple in Zanzibar, he said fish is so fresh. I couldn’t understand, because there were too many flies. But he told me “look at the fish’s eyes! It is alive”
I think he is right. Fish’s eyes are so fresh. They just caught those in front of the sea.
Today I was exhausted with being sleepy that I want to take the rest well at the inside. The room was 30,000 shilling (19$), but without Air conditional and breakfast I paid 20,000 Tsh (13$). Actually in the night it is not hot that I don’t even use fan which is on the ceiling.
These days I am thinking that the best way to be looked expensive hotel is to use beautiful and clean bed sheet.
Actually there is no hot water in a wash room, and many things are not nice. hahaha Only bed sheet looks nicer.
4th Aug 2013
When I looked at the map, it looks there is a paved road. But from the morning I have to cycle on a dirty road. It thanks that after 15 km (10 mi) paved road starts.
When I stop for water and lunch, there is so cute lizard!
I wanted to eat meat, but the soup I ordered was just some meat intestines. It was fishy smell that I couldn’t enjoy. After that finally I succeed to order meat. It is duck! One plate is only 1,000 Tsh (60 cents) so that I order another plate.
Since a few days ago, it has been a shower. Right now it is dry season that I don’t know why it rains. When I take shelter from rain under the tree, one boy is smiling and cycling.
A gas station in a village
I’ve seen people sell something on a bottle. I’ve wondered what that is. Finally I see that they use it for a motor cycle. I guess drivers don’t want to go to fill oil at the far gas station. So, some of them go to far gas station and buy it. Then they sell at the village for other drivers.
Around sunset, always I am being nervous. Today I set up my tent at local people’s yard.
5th Aug 2013
The traffic sign is so cute.
There are many villages, but I can’t find restaurant. Around 4 pm I buy something. It is like a doughnut, but one is only for 100 Tsh (60cents).
They are making charcoal.
I’ve seen wood bike many times today. I think African people are good at handicraft. From the yesterday it is too hilly and humid.
Again I set up my tent at local people’s yard. They are so kind that most of them don’t mind pitching my tent. Some of them try to invite me to sleep at the inside. But I prefer to sleep at the tent for being comfortable in Africa.
6th Aug 2013
Today it showers from the morning. Still it is too hilly. I think my luggage is nothing heavy compared to African people.
I ride a bike almost around dark, because I couldn’t find the safe place I want. When I ask to people for a tent in a village, they don’t understand my English, so I wait some people who can speak English comes. Later they let me set up my tent at their house.
In the night suddenly light comes. Wow? Do they have electricity? It is not surprising they don’t have electricity, but it is more surprising when they have electricity in a village. I can hear some noise that they have a small generator.
At last week I read local Tanzanian newspaper in English that the government says only 20% of population access electricity in Tanzania.

Morning with farm of aloe, mount and cloud
When I want to have some break with drinking cola, it is not easy. Always people surround me.
Today the road is not good that many of them are under construction, and it is really bumpy.
I got flat tire at the front. Again when I stop, they surround me.
I mind looking sunset on a bike, because it means I am late to set up tent.
But today it is so beautiful that I just stop.
Sun will go to horizon and take the rest for tomorrow, and I do need the rest as well.
I set up my tent at some private company.
8th Aug 2013
There are really huge farm of aloe with a beautiful mount.
I’ve seen some warning wind sign, but I am lucky that I didn’t meet strong wind yet.
It is the photo of celebration of 19,000 km
Today I cycle really until late. The family on the picture is so kind to me. The right man on the picture works as a cooker at the Kilimanjaro touring company.
I’ve heard many interesting thing from him.
He tells me that the strongest national in his experience to climb Kilimanjaro is Austria, German and America.
Easiest client is Japanese, American and Korean.
It is funny why he choose Korean is as easiest customer that Korean always bring instant food. To cook rice takes only 3 minutes! Haha.
This is the way to save water from the rain. Rain from the roof goes at the side. There is pipe from the side to the water tank. Interesting!
9th Augu 2013
Today I go to Moshi, which is famous for Kilimanjaro. I will take some rest, because I really cycle hard this week!
